Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can you bring food with you to the Statue of Liberty?
Yes, sealed food and beverages are allowed on the ferries and Liberty Island. Lawns, benches, and picnic areas are located around the island. All backpacks, food, and drinks must be secured in visitor lockers at the security tent area before entering the Pedestal and the Statue. Please note that coolers are not allowed on the ferry or island. Visitors can also skip the hassle of bringing food and enjoy dining at the island's restaurant.
  • Can you get to the Statue of Liberty via ferry?
If you wish to visit Liberty Island and see the Statue of Liberty, you must ride a ferry to get there. Ferry rides take about 15-20 minutes each way and depart from Battery Park and Liberty State Park. Ferry tickets are available online, at ferry departure points, or by calling 1-877-LADY-TIX. If you plan to visit during the busy summer months, you should purchase your tickets in advance to avoid long lines and ticket sell-outs.
