Explore Our World At The American Museum of Natural History

Founded in 1869, the American Museum of Natural History is one of the New York's most popular attractions. See a cast of Titanosaur, a 122-foot-long dinosaur discovered in the Patagonian desert region of Argentina. Wander the galleries of Opulent Oceans to view historic illustrated scientific illustrations from European explorers. Visit the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Hall to discover a bronze sculpture of the former President and nature lover. Check out three colorful species fluttering in the Butterfly Conservatory.   • Are there restaurants at the American Museum of Natural History?

    Yes. The museum offers three unique dining venues. The Food Court offers family style fare like pizza, hamburgers and hot dogs. Café on One serves delicious sandwiches, salads and a selection of beer and wine. Stop by the Café on 4 to enjoy a diverse menu of soups, sandwiches, sushi, and gourmet desserts.
  • Is photography allowed at the American Museum of Natural History?

    Unless noted, visitors are allowed to take photos with their hand-held cameras and smartphones. Photos may only be taken for personal use. Selfie sticks, tri-pods and lights are not permitted at the museum. Note that flash photography is not allowed in the Space Theater or the LeFrak Theater.
