Great traditions of imperial China

The Scarsdale Adult School will offer a five-session course, "Great traditions of Imperial China," beginning Thursday, Sept. 23, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. For more than four thousand years, China enjoyed an advanced civilization that contributed to the world in science, technology, the arts and humanities. China's longevity is largely due to its intellectual foundations that enabled economic prosperity and political stability for an agrarian society that viewed the world through the lens of Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism. Understanding these beliefs is key to understanding the great traditions of China that have been inherent in the Chinese character throughout history. This course will trace the cultural and historical patterns in ancient and imperial China as a means to explain the current events that are shaping the world today. The instructor, Jim Levey, holds a master's degree in China studies from St. John's University, has traveled to China extensively on business, and is currently working to introduce studies on China public school curricula. Previously, he worked as a partner at American China Mercantile and as a senior manager at IBM. To register for the online course, at a fee of $125, go to https://bit.ly/3yAHovH.
