'Passage' a site-specific work by Stephen Talasnik at Court Tree Collective

Well known for his atmospheric drawings, Talasnik has spent the last decade cultivating outdoor landscapes made from wood, reed, and bamboo. Having regularly exhibited both domestically and abroad, Passage is his first New York City ephemeral installation in over a decade. Inspired by glaciers, viewers will have the opportunity to walk through sculpture. Officially scheduled to open on February 12th, the site specific sculpture will be made inside the Court Tree Collective gallery in Industry City in mid January. Viewers can see the artist working live on Saturdays and Sundays (12pm) starting January 16th. We will also be doing a live broadcast of the installation. Originally from Philadelphia, Talasnik's drawings are featured in public collections like the Pompidou in Paris; the Albertina in Vienna; the British Museum, London; the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, and the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC. He is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design (BFA), and the Tyler School of Art (MFA). His installations have exhibited at Storm King Art Centre; The Russel Wright Design Centre, Mantoga; Tippet Rise Art Centre, Montana; and he will participate in the Curitiba Biennial in Brazil in 2023 with three installations at the Oscar Niemeyer Museum. Join us on Friday February 12th at 5pm for the opening night at Industry City. The exhibition will run Saturdays 12-6pm and Sundays 12-5pm from February 13th through May 2nd. Artist Statement: Stephen Talasnik's work is informed by organic engineering and architecture. His three dimensional works are linear extensions of drawing; his primary studio pursuit since leaving Grad School in Rome, Italy. Although formally trained in Fine Arts at RISD, his works are inspired by building; whether with pencil line of wooden dowels. The seamless narrative between structure and void is the result of organic assembly and variable repetition. He uses no mathematics or computer program in measurement, instead relying
